Guided Relaxation

Work have you stressed? Not enough hours in your day? In a society that has us burning the candle at both ends to meet our obligations, we often suffer from personal neglect. Studies have shown that by taking time out to care for ourselves, we actually achieve more, use our time more efficiently, and have more energy to get through the day. Guided relaxation is a technique that will recharge your spiritual battery and help you rise to any occasion.

For centuries, mankind has been interested in the power of the mind. Meditation, prayer, fasting; each have been used to purge the body of unwanted negativity. General relaxation, used consistently, has proven to achieve the same positive results.

There is no uniform method of guided relaxation; it is not a one size fits all technique. While relaxed, the mind has a better opportunity to freely think and expel the detritus of our daily lives. Simple relaxation may be the goal for some, while others use this method to enhance health and refocus on relationships, dreams or pursuits, such as prosperity.

There are many tools to use as well. Some prefer to book sessions with a professional skilled in guided relaxation. Others prefer to work privately using a recording either purchased or one they make themselves. The more technically inclined even use their mp3 player to take these journeys. Despite the many different approaches and reasons to use guided relaxation, there are some similarities each technique shares.

Space is an important aspect of guided relaxation. Comfort and security are a must. Most sessions last about twenty minutes so one should choose a place where they won’t be interrupted for at least that length of time. If you’re on tenterhooks to finish before someone barges into the room, it will be tough to relax completely. A comfortable chair, bed, or pillows on the floor are a few common choices.

During the process, one is taught to relax muscle by muscle, starting with the face and neck. Breathing is an important part to gaining full relaxation. Many guides suggest deep breathing, inhaling and exhaling in conjunction with the release of tension from each muscle group. This helps purge the body of physical stressors one might not even be aware exist.

As a person travels into a deep, meditative state, certain suggestions can be offered in accordance with the wanted effect. If the goal is to awaken calm and de-stressed, or if better health is desired, or a renewed focus on prosperity, perhaps reaching a goal, a soothing mantra offers this message to the body and mind.

The general benefits of guided relaxation are real and have been recognized in the scientific community as an integral part of our overall mental and physical health. Whatever your current needs are, the ancient wisdom that our well-being must come first if we are to be helpful to anyone else is still true today. Experiment with different general relaxation techniques until you find that best suits your needs.
