Use Your Imagination
Your imagination is a very powerful part of your mind. It helps us do many things throughout our day
including making decisions. We imagine what potential outcomes will be for
certain decisions and then choose the best one for the situation.
Another wonderful thing we can do with our imagination is
use it as a tool for relaxing our body.
With all the stress in our everyday lives we need to relax as often as
possible.
Most of the time we don’t take the time to use our imagination
to it’s fullest. We merely see pictures in our head. When it is time to relax
our bodies it is very important that we use all of our senses in our
imagination.
Let me give you are relaxing scene along with tips on how to
enhance it to let our bodies relax:
Imagine yourself in a beautiful meadow. You look around and
see the green grass and patches of wild flowers of all different colors. You
can smell the sweet smell of the pine trees that surround the meadow. The pine
trees are very tall and only let the sun shine directly down in the center of
the field.
Looking around you notice there is a pathway running through
the middle of the meadow. It once was tall grass that has been mashed down by
animals traveling through on their mission to find their daily meal.
You begin to follow the path through this meadow. You start
to notice new things about your surroundings. You see the sky has puffy white
clouds surrounded by a rich blue sky. The mid-day sun is covering you and its
warmth feels like you are comfortably wrapped in a blanket. You can see there
is a light breeze because the branches of the trees are lightly shaking. You
notice a butterfly fluttering around some of the yellow flowers to your left.
You continue down the path and notice a large rock off to
your right toward the edge of the meadow. You start to walk toward the rock and
as you approach it, you realize it is not a rock at all. It is a picnic table
that has been set up just for you. It is covered with beautiful linen and a
picnic basket.
You sit down at this table and open the basket. Your
favorite food is in this basket. You reach in and lay out the food on a plate.
The meal is the exact temperature that you like it. You begin to eat and notice
that flavor is amazing. It is the best you have ever tasted in your life. When
you finish you notice that you are not full, but satisfied.
You stand up from the table and walk across the meadow
again. On the other side you find a chair. This is not an ordinary chair; this
is the most comfortable chair in the world. You notice the texture of the
cloth, the size of the cushions and the way it reclines.
As you sit down in the chair, you begin to sink down in it
and feel the most wonderful sense of relaxation you have ever felt. You relax
in the chair for a little while until your mind and body have been rejuvenated.
This style of relaxation using your imagination can be done
just about anywhere. I wouldn’t recommend trying it while you are driving in a
car or in an important meeting at work though. When you use your imagination to
relax, you will find your mind being more relaxed and less stressed.
